An amazing report (from Wikipedia again) regarding Food Security!!!
An amazing article reflecting, among many things, how water supply can compromise food
production.
However, I think a good summary can be found at the section, The
agriculture-hunger-poverty nexus. It notes how lack of food can cause a myriad of problems
for developing countries AND children. It cites some of the political games those who suffer
from hunger must endure also. Very interesting! Sad also because it is a very sad world
when "politics" will not allow one to eat when resources and emerging technology are
available for them to do so.
Absolutely amazing. Is it "support me or starve?" Would sending them a potted plant...with
an adequate water supply.... solve their problems?
Please realize that THIS spotlight is about hunger. However, PLEASE be aware that others
can LOOK perfectly healthy but be suffering from some form of malnutrition because of
some kind of physical problem or because they lack an adequate food supply. This can be
especially true with older adults whose ability to absorb nutrients from the foods they eat
may be decreased because of age. Also, remember as with hunger, "politics" can also be
involved. Are the seniors getting all of their "available" resources as those in the Third
Countries should be? Are the Social Security and Medicare benefits they worked so hard
for SAFE? Is the locked box FULL?
Back to the subject:
Even more surprisingly, it notes that many in the rural areas, who seem to have the most
resources to grow their own food, are those who suffer from hunger the most. Please note
the causes (political, economical and socially) if you are interested.
It also notes that in the future, hunger problems can occur anywhere if certain problems are
not corrected.
Fascinating article!
