Adams' Rib
The next topic  involves religion and science.

It invites introspection and  not necessarily answers for those who are not microbiologists.
Sometimes introspection leads to
other answers and never the ones we initially sought.
Therefore, introspection can be a good exercise.

We will examine text from a book which many would use to oppress women (and many others):
the Bible. Gender issues can never be discussed honestly without mentioning religion at some
point.

And the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone: I will make him a helper
comparable to him.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall over Adam, and he slept:
and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.
Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman,
and He brought her to the man.

And Adam said,

This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman
Because she was taken out of Man
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Genesis 2:18, 21-25

How would you correlate the above scripture with current scientific knowledge which indicates
f
emales have two X chromosomes and the male have an X and Y chromosome?

Does it indicate females are "missing" something because she gave it to the male and she was
first? (smile) Or vice versa? Or no correlation at all?

Of course, there are obvious differences between the sexes. Anyone can see it!

However, with the way many sacred writings evolved, there is no guarantee that one would
assume that the transformation occurred at a cellular (sleeping?) level.

Just something to think about as we ponder gender issues because there is a lot of debate in
regards to
whether most differences between the sexes are created by the conditioning of
society or are innate tendencies which exists from birth...the chromosomal level.
