Gay Rights
Yes, some of you may not like what they do and how they do it? But do they or do they
NOT pay taxes like everyone else? Therefore, are they NOT entitled to EQUAL protection
(not necessarily special protection) under the law in this "land of the people, by the people
and FOR the people?

Lots to discuss here and I WILL use the word "abomination" in that discussion about the
rights of ALL people! Never make any assumptions about what i will write. I am not here to
validate anyone's lifestyle. If the ones involved can not do it, why should I? But I AM here to
fight for the rights of others. Of  course, we all joke around sometimes but some actions by
others is just totally unfair and some of those actions are (or should be) just downright
criminal.

Let me tell you this: NO one gains ANY points for fighting for the rights for gays. There is
no glory in it.
Homosexuality

someoneis that no matter what you write or say, won’t necessarily subject themselves to
abuse, but their comfort level and faith in themselves won’t necessarily subject themselves to
abuse, but their comfort level and faith in themselves and what they believe, will
allow them to
listen to differing points of views. Sometimes. Not all
allow them to listen to differing points of
views. Sometimes. Not all the time, because “trash in”  them to listen to differing points of
views. Sometimes. Not all the time, because “trash in” means “trash out”.
the time, because “trash in” means “trash out”.

However, also remember my attempts to discuss this subject is not to validate the lifestyle of
any one group. That would be point number two. Such attempts,
if it such attempts should be
made, should probably be made in another forum and probably by another person or group,
most likely someone who is gay. This forum is an attempt to procure more rights…equal
protection under the law…. for free taxpaying citizens because as Martin Luther King Jr. once
said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. My purpose is not to change
anyone from gay to straight or vice versa. My only purpose here  is to change others in their
resolve to make sure all people have equal protection under the law.  It such a small goal but
it provides big rewards for those who would benefit from it the most.  Trust me: I will win very
few friends for my efforts; it is not a popular endeavor.  Furthermore, even despite what
Martin Luther King Jr., said, some folks wonder why I even bother.

Point number three is that we can all avoid a lot of hurt and disappointment if you make no
assumptions about what I (others) believe or what I may write, whether from a conservative or
a liberal view point. I really will disappoint you because my convictions tend to run very deep
and at times are very complex. I may have the urge to explain them all but most of the time, I
do not. I should have rights, too:  the right to keep silent if I choose.

Therefore, let us start with the most controversial statement about homosexuality at this time
and get it out of the way so we can thicken your skin for controversy and hopefully generate
freedom to have a more open discussion. We will start with a religious statement because
most discussions about homosexuality are based on some religious perspective. That
statement is found in Leviticus 18:22:
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an
abomination.
(And I am sure it was vice versa regarding women lying with women)

In order to discuss homosexuality with a broader perspective which involves a broader
audience, we must understand why homosexuality would have been considered an
abomination (and still is by some). It was because of it
perceived negative effects on the
social order.
It really happens,
folks!

For "conservatives":

This is not necessarily a
problem with the schools
but I will use it as an
example because it is
one we seem to
understand most.

Have you ever gone to
your child's school and
was told that you will
need expert legal advice
(if you like) before you
sign a stack of papers to
give the school
permission to give your
child ONE pill...such as a
aspirin?  If not,  if the
child is found to have
that pill, or any pill,  they
will spend the rest of
their life in jail?

However, doctors can
perform what some
would call major surgery,
such as an abortion, on
that same child and
need no parental
permission whatsoever?

How does this subject
pertain to homosexuality
and the rights of gays
who desire and
request
the support of those who
love them especially
when they are dealing
with a crisis? Because,
based on my
experience, I  betcha
you can have
legal
rights
and those are
ignored, too, huh?

invading the privacy of

is a definitely connection
between the two above
subjects.

This is in regards to my comments about the USO and, once again, my play with words on
the

I went from UFOs, to the USO then from Hope to OOOOOOOOOs and then to

I was thinking more in terms of the possibility of SOME thinking this nation will be riddled with
TONS of debt and we will become bums. (smile)

However, I can see where some you are constantly preoccupied with OTHER matters may
become confused and twist it to mean "abomination" as in some sexual relationships.

Puh-leze.

I will be the FIRST to tell you that REGARDLESS of WHAT laws are enacted, I believe that
those of ALL sexual orientations should be held to the SAME standards and values.

I have found in my travels that some people don't have a clue what those "acceptable"
standards are. I think it is because of their isolation. You do NOT "force" others to admit that
they are "really" gay because they are too shy to admit it and other tactics such as that.
That is how gay bashing occurs when that person may treat you the same way they may
treat the member of the opposite sex.

Furthermore, I believe that regardless of one's sexual orientation, individuals should be free
to live in a committed, OPEN and SAFE relationship with the ones they love. Does that mean
I endorse gay marriage. So far I have not found a reason NOT to endorse it but I am sure
that is going to change because people have all sorts of reasons why gay should NOT have
the right to marry and it has NOTHING to do with homosexuality.

I don't have time to write much. However, I will write this. There is more openness about
homosexuality in society. I have been extremely busy but I believe there have been some
laws passed. Hate crimes laws. I am not sure.

A word of warning to gays....written very hastily. (Which means I could write MORE and
explain myself better but I don't have the time, while correcting the personal pronouns. I
don't have time.)

Don't forget that even though your FRIENDS may not discriminate against you because you
are gay, there are MANY places left in this world were homosexuality is STILL a CRIME.

Being open and sure of yourself can present some challenges when you are gay I guess.

Furthermore, have they changed the policy about homosexuals in the military? Odd, huh?
A person can not serve their country IF they are gay. (And other things, I guess. Like being
deaf, blind, and etc.) They can provide exemplary service but be kicked out of the military
because they "asked" AND/OR "told".

Oh, well. Women have had this problem in the military for YEARS!

Hey! If I was gay, I would probably be one of the FIRST ones to be kicked out, too. Me
mouth can be big sometimes. "Yeah, I love that person! What about it?"

I certainly don't know all the legalities but I guess that mean that gays can not serve in ANY
capacity in the military. Not even in a cabinet position or, if you really wanted to get
homophobic, not even as a  commander in chief if you really wanted to get technical.

Of course, if you really wanted to get technical a person probably would want to know WHAT
is a gay person. What determines their homosexuality? One sex act? Or many? A gay
marriage? A live in situation? WHAT? One trumped up photo or many? (smile) Lust for the
same sex or love? Full understanding of what it means to be gay or what?

Well, don't "look at me crazy": even though folks fight for the rights of gays,  they honestly
do NOT understand the attraction? Is it sex or love or both? So, hey, don't ask me! I really
do NOT understand the attraction.  But WHO makes the legal determination? And, if THEY
are gay, are THEIR determinations considered legal and valid, since gays don't have a
"right" to certain jobs? You know: that question about conflict of interest can get tricky.

I am no lawyer, though. Nor do I want to be. See how this can get tricky and how this MUST
all change? Don't YOU have some gay friends that YOU love? Why should ANYONE be
defined STRICTLY by the person with which they chose  to sleep with? Or forced to sleep
with? (smile) This is a problem women have been facing for CENTURIES! Am I not a person
in my own right? Wasn't I able to put two sentences together before I met someone
"important"? If you don't want to be treated with such total disrespect, do NOT treat others
(GAYS!) the same!!

I am not into any political activism regarding gay rights right now, though. I am dealing with
the highly emotional aspects of Hanukkah. I am FAILING on ALL counts, too. I fail EVERY
year! It is more complicated than ANY thing than I have EVER seen! My plate is FULL!
("Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where I am dumb, give me insight! Then help
me forget it ALL until the NEXT year!")

But someone could probably write a book on the above. Some person who is an EXPERT!
