There aren't many issues more important
than the food  we (munch, munch, munch)
we put in our mouths!
Is there anything more important than food? Okay. Maybe water.
Agricultural
Spotlight links on historic figures in agriculture:

Norman Ernest Bolaugh (March 25, 1914 – September 12, 2009)
Recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate for his agricultural discoveries which increased
food supply and decreased world hunger.

Cesar Chavez ((March 31, 1927 – April 23, 1993)
A Mexican American community and labor organizer who fought to reduce exploitation of
documented and undocumented farm workers during his tenure with the United Farm Workers
(UFW) .

Although most can agree with their noble goals, there remains some controversy about the methods
to accomplish those goals used by each individual.

Some disagree with a "genetically engineered" food supply advocated by Bolaugh. Note the
response in the section titled "The  Bolaugh hypothesis" and "Criticism and His views of critics" at
the link.

Today many would disagree with the actions of Chavez's and his supporters if they themselves
would forcibly prevent  the crossing of "undocumented" workers at the Mexican/US border.

Remember a previous topic regarding
container gardening?

This is just a reminder that for many of you THIS is the time to start that project IF you were
considering it.

Start small if you must. Start with one plant. Or try growing some fresh herbs and sit them
in the kitchen window.

Possible concerns:
The cost? You probably throw away more food than this project will cost.
Inexperienced? My goodness. Exercise a new cell in your brain. Try something new. You
will learn something even if you fail!
You don't have a "green" thumb? Well, just throw the dirt back into the earth if you fail.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, though.
The ripple effect on the economy of the beloved small family farm? Wow. You could
use the produce you plant  to cook with OTHER foods that they sell. AND you will have
MORE money to do so.

Any more complaints?  Get started. Start with seeds or buy a small plant  from a local
vendor and transplant it at the appropriate time. They can usually advise you if you have
more question. Otherwise, there are usually several other local agencies, like your local
4-H club,  who can offer advice.

Get those thumbs GREEN!

A note regarding starting a container "garden" from seedlings:

Not as easy as it looks, huh?

And I've LIVED some years on a farm, too.

Oh, well.

If you have an interest in this subject, you might as well know sooner than later. Because,
despite the optimism, you WILL know
: the project is fraught with its share of
difficulties.

You know that old saying,
"You reap what you sow"?

Well, I have been looking at my container plants and I have some VERY sad news for you:

It ain' t necessarily so.

Not on THIS earth anyway. And God knows that I have sowed a LOT of seeds, too. (smile)

You may say, "well, you have to do this or you must do that."

Oh, STOP with all the extenuating circumstances. IF I PUT SEEDS IN THE GROUND (or in
my containers), I WANT TO SEE GOOD VEGGIES COME UP! I planted some GOOD
seeds!  Probably HUNDREDS of them, too.

So what if they may have gotten just a bit too much water. "The more the better" in my
book!

So THAT is why a lot of you want to "help" God out and play judge, jury and
executioner....and GOD........ when it concerns PEOPLE and  THEIR actions. Because He
NEEDS help because folks are "getting away with EVERY thing!"?

If God needs help, He will ASK for help.  I am not referring to a legitimate
and very
necessary
system of justice in an ordered society, either.

Oops. God DID ask for help.

He said FEED my sheep and LEAD them down the RIGHT path.....not destroy them bit by
bit by bit...just because you can.

And don't necessarily confused a "well-balanced" system of justice with a system of
harvest either. If you do, you may become completely out of balance. I could write more
but those thoughts really belong on the
Mental Health Page.

Back to the plants. Gosh. They really need to be "saved".
And reading my book on
Paganism while trying to keep a somewhat open mind. It is an
absolutely WONDERFUL book! I like it much better than the one on
magic and religion.
Gosh, the pagans have more in common with "us" than they have differences.
